Investigation on Micro-scene Renewal of Park City to Transform Inefficient Edges into High-valueEdges |

Abstract: |
The construction of park city in the new era is fundamentally about
deeply exploring and utilizing the idle and underperforming spaces within the
built environment, enhancing their ecological and landscape characteristics,
and supplementing them with appropriate social functions. This approach aims
to achieve a holistic performance that encompasses ecological, economic,
landscape, social, and spatial benefits, based on ecological efficiency. The
goal is to create micro-scenic spaces that complement urban parks, providing
a park-like urban environment that meets the high-quality and refined living
environment needs of residents, with optimal spatial accessibility, aesthetic
landscape perception, and active participation. Under the refined governance
of cities, the development requirement of "people-oriented" shifts the focus of
urban park green space layout from the traditional "land-land" (park land and
residential land) relationship to the "land-people" (park land and urban residents)
relationship. As the construction of park cities progresses, the creation of parklike
scenes helps to effectively address the limitations imposed by high-density
built environments on the development of park green spaces, better presenting
the interaction between "space-people" (park-like spaces-urban residents). The
potential corner spaces within the existing urban fabric have the potential to be
transformed into urban micro-green spaces and small public spaces, which are
key to the renewal and creation of park-like "golden corners and silver edges"
through micro-scene renewals. These "golden corners and silver edges" of the
city, with their ecological, landscape, and social functions, contribute to the
supplementation, optimization, and enhancement of regional overall functions,
forming a high-performance characteristic that integrates high ecological service
provision, high landscape aesthetic perception, high resident demand support,
and high socio-economic vitality support. The construction of park city "golden
corners and silver edges" involves identifying the potentially renewable corner
spaces within the existing built environment. By assessing spaces based on their
characteristics, vitality, and management attributes, spaces with high renewal
potential are selected and their transformation directions are determined. The
transformation and optimization of these spaces are achieved through microscene
renewal techniques that integrate ecological support, demand fitting,
landscape enhancement, and activity introduction, thereby creating park-like
landscape-perceptual spaces. Guided by a technical framework that includes
the assessment and identification of regional spatial characteristics, classification
and delineation based on site characteristics and neighborhood needs, analysis
and design aligned with micro-scene construction goals, and governance and
assurance for the sustainable value transformation of projects, the phased
micro-renewal methods of "ecological improvement" foundation, "functional
implantation" supplementation, "atmosphere construction" optimization, and
"catalyst planning" revitalization are employed. These methods facilitate the
orderly advancement of urban small-space renewal, transforming negative and
underutilized urban corner spaces into key spaces that possess ecologicalsocial
relevance and landscape aesthetic experiences. The research, exemplified
by the "golden corners and silver edges" project in Wuhou District, Chengdu,
which adopts a combination of "systematic district advancement + point
project exploration" and utilizes the new model of "EPC+O" that combines
government investment with market-oriented and professional operation,
summarizes three construction modes: greening and color enhancement to
reconstruct the ecological landscape foundation of the site, planting enrichment
to elevate the ecological and characteristic landscape perception of the site,
and capacity augmentation to enhance the participatory and unique experiential
qualities of the site. By combining and overlaying these three modes according
to the differences in transformation objects and goals, the project guides the
transformation of negative, underutilized, and inefficient urban corner spaces
into a series of park-like scene spaces characterized by "high landscape
perception-high catalyst attraction-high vitality features". This provides guidance
for the systematic micro-scene renewal work that aims to improve the regional
ecological network, supplement neighborhood public service shortcomings,
support diverse resident needs, and enhance the urban landscape. |
