Connecting NatureCultures: A Global Issue Arisingfrom Western Philosophy |
(Australia) Steven Brown,Translated by HAN Feng,Translated byCHENG Anqi |
Abstract: |
The paper asserts that the concept of cultural heritage is
evolving and the present cultural landscape encompasses three broad
meanings: 1) Cultural landscape as object; 2) Cultural landscape as a
concept and process; 3) Cultural landscape as a set of methods and tools.
It pointed that World Heritage is a system that separates "nature" and
"culture" with the pervasive influence of the Western philosophy. The paper
introduced the two projects "connecting practice project" and "natureculture
journey" cooperated by IUCN and ICOMOS to recognize and promote to
better connect natural / cultural heritage in governance and management
practice across different geographic and cultural contexts. It suggests that
indigenous societies and local communities are in the strongest position to
further the work on natureculture journey. |
