| Abstract: |
| Sustainable development has become a central issue in global urban
development. While research on urban sustainability, both domestically and
internationally, has shown trends of diversification and identifies, there remains a
notable lack of sufficient attention to the spatial dimension. The paper constructs
a "1+3+6" urban sustainability assessment framework and indicator system
from a spatial research perspective. Leveraging multi-source spatiotemporal
data and digital portrait technology, the paper conducts a multidimensional
digital characterization and comprehensive evaluation of 36 major cities across
China, and identifying three distinct urban development patterns. Furthermore,
the paper expands specialized assessment frameworks and develops tailored
indicator sets and analytical methods that foreground sustainability objectives,
including urban ecological spaces, built-up space and high-density-intensive
spatial forms to advance urban sustainability objectives. Through empirical
assessments conducted on a sample of Chinese cities, the paper examines
scenario-specific spatial optimization priorities for different urban settings and
provides methodological support for sustainability-oriented urban planning,
construction, and governance, while facilitating deeper integration of Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) with the practices of urban regeneration and
spatial governance. The paper not only broadens the perspective of urban
sustainability research but also provides actionable insights for evidence-based
policy formulation and technical methodologies in urban spatial optimization,
contributing to both academic discourse and practical advancements in urban
sustainable development |
